This is a calendar of events for Ontario (Canada) obedience trials. Dogs
must earn 3 legs (three passing scores) under two different judges to be
awarded an obedience title. Beginning dogs compete in the Novice Class where
they must walk in heel position on and off lead, stand for examination,
come when called, sit stay for 1 minute, and down stay for 3 minutes. The
title earned is called a Companion Dog. The next title of Companion Dog
Excellent, earned in the Open Class, involves all off lead work and incorporates
retrieving a dumbell on flat ground & over a jump, jumping a lengthwise
jump, dropping on recall, a 3 minute sit stay with the handler out of sight,
and a 5 minute down stay with the handler out of sight. The Utility Class
involves off lead work, scent discrimination, seek back, jumping designated
jumps, following hand signals, and a 10 minute stand for examination. Dogs
completing this degree earn the title Obedience Trial Champion.
